Rockstar Games once again invites players to “explore their inner criminal” with this release of Grand Theft Auto III for the PlayStation 2 console. This violent, mission-based driving game has the player resuming the role of a cold-hearted street thug making his way up the ladder of underworld gangs and organized crime. With over 50 different types of vehicles on the busy city streets, sports cars to SUVs, taxi cabs to 18-wheelers, and even ambulances and cop cars all there for the taking, a wide variety of outlaw adventures awaits.
The setting of Liberty City is made up of three districts and in all, Grand Theft Auto III offers 72 different missions, many of which can be played in any order. As the player’s character completes jobs available in one part of the city, other areas and assignments open up to him. Along with this purposeful design of a non-lineal story line, many other features popular in earlier versions of the game return in this release as well, including a diverse variety of deadly weapons, busy streets full of self-involved pedestrians, and eight different radio station soundtracks to listen to while inside the vehicles. ~ T.J. Like so many other reviews about this game, I would first like to start off by saying that Grand Theft Auto III defines the meaning of the “M” rating. This game is not, Not, NOT for kids or even adults who cannot stomach this type of brutal violence!!!!!!!! I just cannot imagine anyone who is 40 years and up actually enjoying a game like this. So be warned, do not play this game if you do not like gore and violence.
Anyway, for everyone else who can enjoy a game like this for any other reason should put this in their “Greatest Hits” lists for the PS2. With such a great system like the PS2 I cannot believe the horrible and unworthy games that have come out for the system. C\’mon guys, stop making games that you put no effort into. I have seen games that made me want to give up on the whole idea of video gaming. Fortunately, Grand Theft Auto III came out just in time to save me.
The first thing I love about this game is the gameplay. It is just fun because you are able to walk and drive cars. You are allowed to carjack almost any vehicle (81 of them by the way) and take it for a joy ride or do very unique and fun missions. The previous two games had the same premise but did not have the same excitement and effort like this game does. Wonderful piece of work with the gameplay.
The next thing is the sound. This is probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, sounding game I have ever heard. First, the way the sound effects of the guns being fired and the screeching of tires and the sounds of crashing into things are so realistic, you would think you were sideswiped in your own chair. Then there is the radio which has 8 different stations. It has the funniest things I\’ve ever heard in a video game. It has everything from pop to opera. My personal favorite is the talk radio which captures the feeling of a real talk radio station. The things that are said are outrageous and hilarious. Perfect in almost every way.
Now I come to the graphics, which is actually where the game falls. Overall, the cities look amazing because you could go basically anywhere you want. However, when objects and people begin to pop up in the backround while you are driving, it is a little distracting. I also had a problem with the fact that the characters all looked the same. I felt as though I was in the one scene from the Matrix where Morpheus froze everything and everybody while training Neo. (The similarity by the way is that the people in the Matrix all looked the same as well). I really cannot blame them. I believe these are the minor sacrifices that were made to make the game great overall.
The replay value is nothing short of excellent because this is the only game I am currently playing right now. I seriously believe that a person can spend up to 80 to 100 hours playing this game. Trust me, you won\’t finish in one night.
Since the stars for yahoo! only go up to five, I would like to make my own rating from 1 to 10. Out of 10, I give this a 9.2. The only reason for that -.8 is because the aformentioned pop-up problem and the characters looking the same. Don\’t worry, everything else is extraordinary. If you can handle this type of game, pick Grand Theft Auto III up now!!!!!

I gotta get this for my KIDS!! Very educational about the real world. Its a sad day when the real-world influences a game like this, but a hell of a lot of fun. The colorful metaphores in the game should help improve my childrenss vocabulary. I never did like being a parent, thats why I rely on television to be the parent. This is the kind of tasteless trash that makes for a good game! Really made me feel like having another dick-turd and complaining about the state of the world. Perhaps I can make make life a little more miserable for a few of you by giving this game a good review.

This game is head on fun. The only bad part is they made onther game which is alot better. GTA 3 only problem is the steering with the cars is really hard when you going fast. The graphics could be a little better too. Other than that its a great game!
