A Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review

Sony’s Playstation 3 console has had its ups and downs since its initial release at the close of 2006. A few solid titles helped their holiday push and carried them through Sony’s transition into the next-generation console war. When Sony published “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” from developer Naughty Dog they had their first original content classic. Since its release, fans have been clamoring for more of the brazen treasure hunter. With Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Naughty Dog has listened to their audience and responded with a resounding enthusiasm to please their fans.

The teaser trailer that circulated the internet serving as the world’s introduction to their new project finds Nathan Drake seated in a derailed train car that is dangling over the cliff’s edge in a whitewashed mountain range.

This same dramatic sequence is how Naughty Dog has chosen to introduce players to this new, grittier adventure and the game-play that follows is nothing short of a brilliant mechanism to introduce the intricacies of their dynamic thrill-seeking strategy.

In their newest adventure, unexpected obstacles, strict adherence to physics-based dramatic action, beautiful particle effects, and insane gunfights serve to progress an intense script that could be mistaken for Hollywood’s hottest new flick. As Drake traverses the Himalayan landscape, thousands of feet above sea level, this game features a handful of more precise platforming elements that makes it feel somewhat like the first Assassin’s Creed title combined with semi-automatic showdowns.

The sequel suffers a bit from the slow pace of the “Assassin’s Creed” style of stealth, but makes up for it with a more immersible environment and a far more gripping tale–a mysterious web of deception, destruction, and desire.

The newest and most talked-about addition to the franchise is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves’ online modes. Now you can comb the level maps in death-matches or territorial takeovers (similar to FPS games).

Co-op missions are available too where you can tackle certain areas of the game from a different angle. As in the original, your successes net you trophies, but now every accomplishment (including online stats) earns you money that you use to purchase unlock-able content such as character costumes, early artwork, game movies, and weapons upgrades for online play.

Any fan of the first Uncharted game will want to grab this one. If you did not play the original, you could rent Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to see if this is your type of game. Find more game reviews and details about video game rentals at GameRentalCentral.
