Leading off with their only British hit, the Top 20 entry “Computer Game,” Yellow Magic Orchestra’s debut album launches the group as a Japanese novelty act in keeping with Kraftwerk. “Computer Game” is about what it sounds like, while “Firecracker” and “Cosmic Surfin” drift along with Oriental melodies playing over the top of an unobtrusive synthpop backing. The disco bass on “Yellow Magic (Tong Poo)” shows that YMO were beginning to expand their base, but for the most part Yellow Magic Orchestra never strays from its influences. Cry of the Banshee: Sorcerer Dona Bergner conjures servant of Satan to avenge nobleman Cost’s bloody reign of sorcerer-seeking. Bewilderment sets in halfway. Cast includes Vincent Cost, Elisabeth Bergner, Essy Persson, Griffith, Hilary Dwyer, Sally Geeson, and Patrick Mower. (87 minutes, 1970)

The Chocolate Soldier: Eddy and Stevens are husband and wife opera megastars. To be sure of her fidelity, he camouflages himself as a Cossack and woos her. Cast includes Nelson Eddy, Rise Stevens, Nigel Bruce, Florence Bates, Dorothy Gilmore, and Nydia Westman. (102 minutes, 1941)

Minority Report: A gripping futuristic sci-fi thriller. A new world of crime prevention is being used. It is called the Pre Crime unit. Pre Cogs will see a future crime coming, they will relay this information to the crime unit, who will locate the event before it happens and intercept the criminal before he can commit the crime. When unit Chief John Anderton has his name put forth as a future criminal, it puts him, and the whole pre-crime unit to the test.

The Slams: Pointless action movie has Brown in an L.A. penitentiary after stashing away a heroin backlog and five million dollars. Midway through, the comedy takes over for a quick pickup. Cast includes Jim Brown, Judy Pace, Roland “Bob” Harris, Blunt de Kova, and Ted Cassidy. (97 minutes, 1973)

Inside Man: Within A matter of seconds, the Manhattan Trust Bank has been taken over. Everyone inside is held hostage. The robbers have a brilliant plan that the police struggle to deal with. Just how will they escape, and what was really going on in this sophisticated heist?

Te Alambrista: Boyish, ignorant Ambriz illegally crosses the U.S.-Mexican boundary and is capitalized on as he desires work to aid his family. The feeling is crisp and observational; director Youthful’s first flick. Cast includes Domingo Ambriz, Trinidad Silva, Linda Gillin, Ned Beatty, Julius Harris, Paul Berrones, and Edward James Olmos. (110 minutes, 1977)

La Promesse: Harrowing story of a boy being brought up by a dad who ruthlessly capitalizes on, unlawful immigrants as their assumed savior, and master. Trouble starts while the boy, who’s unconditionally obeyed his dad unquestioningly, creates a kinship with one of the illegal aliens. Moving in its understated, matter-of-truth check out a youthful guy at a ethical crossroads in his life. Cast includes Jeremie Renier, Olivier Gourmet, Assita Ouedraogo, and Rasmane Ouedraogo. (93 minutes, 1996)

Mars Attacks: Martian spacecraft have surrounded Earth. The president is convinced that they come in peace. A press conference is held and things seem fine, but then the Martians attack and all hell breaks loose in this wacky comedy.

Stand Alone: Vigilante opus has miscast Durning as a battle vet who goes after Latino thugs who are preying on his community. Grier is trashed in a goody-2-shoes role. Spectacle of obese Durning running around in action scenes is accidentally ludicrous. Cast includes Charles Durning, Pam Grier, James Keach, Bert Remsen, Barbara Sammeth, Lu Leonard, and Luis Contreras. (90 minutes, 1985)

Iron Will: Cast includes Mackenzie Astin, Kevin Spacey, August Schellenberg, David Ogden Stiers, Brian Cox, George Gerdes, and John Terry. Kid enters a Winnipeg-to-St. Paul mutt-sled race in the WW1 epoch; outcome is so “by the numbers” that you nearly anticipate the numerals to start flashing on the monitor, John Waters’ Polyester 2 extra authors finished the primordial script by war horse John Michael Hayes Back WINDOW, presumably to make it more like a poor Disney Channel entry. There’s a faint pulse anytime Spacey as a reporter shows up on the monitor. (109 minutes, 1994)

The Lusty Men: Knowledgeable, atmospheric rodeo tirade, with ex-winner Mitchum becoming mentor of novice Kennedy-and finding himself allured to Kennedy’s no nonsense spouse Hayward. Dense going most of the way-till that hokey finale. Cast includes Susan Hayward, Robert Mitchum, Arthur Kennedy, Arthur Hunnicutt, and Blunt Faylen. (113 minutes, 1952)

Follow the Fleet: Admirable lyrical with seamen Astaire and Scott courting siblings Rogers and Hilliard. Irving Berlin melodies contain “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” “Let Yourself Go,” “We Noticed the Ocean.” A revising of Beach Leave, a 1925 Richard Barthelmess flick, and the 1930 lyrical Hit the Deck. That’s Lucille Ball as Cat. Cast includes Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Randolph Scott, Harriet Hilliard Nelson, Astrid AlIwyn, and Betty Grable. (110 minutes, 1936)

8MM: Small time surveillance expert Tom Wells is hired to find out if a snuff film is authentic or not. This sends him into the seedy world of pornography. After getting this deep, he has to take it one step further, and go into the darkest corner of the porn world.

Dust Devil: In Africa’s Namibia Desert, malevolent soul Burke, snared in human being form, should slaughter to enter a metaphysical empire; he meets Territory, escaping an miserable matrimony, and is chased by cop Mokae. Fascinating premise, excellent performing nearly counteract sluggish pace, conceited approach. Cast includes Robert Burke, Zakes Mokae, John Matshiliza, Rufus Swart, William Hootkins, and Marianne Sagebrecht. (87 minutes, 1993)
